Turkey Republic Day 2018
This Doodle’s Key Themes
Today’s Doodle honors the country of Turkey on Cumhuriyet Bayramı, the national holiday marking the anniversary of the day in 1923 when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk declared the country a Republic.
It's a festive day off from work for most Turkish citizens, who are free to enjoy parades, torchlight processions, and feasts. Last year in the capital of Istanbul, around 50,000 fireworks lit up the massive Bosphorus Bridge.
The flag of Turkey flies everywhere on Republic Day, its design evoking the history of civilization in the area.
Happy Republic Day, Turkey!
