Turkey Republic Day 2017
This Doodle’s Key Themes
Today’s Doodle celebrates the 94th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey. After World War I, Turkey acquired statehood. Founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was proclaimed the first president.
The rich history of the country is celebrated from Ankara to Istanbul with light shows, fireworks, and concerts. Some families take part in traditional processions while others lay a wreath on the mausoleum of Ataturk, one of the most important figures in Turkish history.
Happy Republic Day, Turkey! Or should we say, “Cumhuriyet Bayramımız kutlu olsun!”
