About the Art of Hip-Hop Beat Making Doodle
From the boom-bap of the ‘90s to the genre-bending sounds of today, a powerful beat is the backbone of many hit records. In honor of Black History Month, this music video Doodle celebrates the art of beat making and the visionary producers who transformed music during hip-hop’s golden age in the 1990s and early 2000s.
The artwork was developed in partnership with artist and producer Illa J, who composed a custom track for the Doodle. Set in Detroit, the Doodle showcases how artists blended digital and analog techniques—looping, chopping, and mixing—to redefine music from their home studios. These techniques continue to reverberate through the music we hear today, forming the foundation of countless genres.
