Serbia National Day 2018
This Doodle’s Key Themes
February 15th is celebrated across Serbia as Statehood Day. It marks the First Serbian Uprising of 1804 that eventually led to the end of over three hundred years of Ottoman rule, and the establishment of the modern Serbian state. Three decades later, in 1835, the Sretenje Constitution (also known as the “Constitution of the Principality of Serbia”) was adopted on the same day, becoming the first of Serbia’s eleven constitutions adopted to date.
Today’s Doodle depicts the Serbian flag with its three equal horizontal stripes of red, blue, and white. Against this backdrop is the lesser coat of arms, consisting of a two-headed white eagle on a red shield. The four C-shaped elements on the inner shield are called ocila, or firesteels.
Srećan Dan državnosti, Srbijo!
