Saudi Arabia National Day 2020
This Doodle’s Key Themes
Today’s Doodle celebrates Saudi Arabia’s National Day, known in Arabic as Al-Yaom-ul-Watany. On this day in 1932, a royal decree called for the unification of the dual Kingdom of Nejd and Hejaz under the name of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Featured in the Doodle artwork is the flag of Saudi Arabia, which showcases a white Arabic inscription and sword against a green backdrop. The government adopted the flag in its current form in 1973, and today it serves as a symbol of Saudi Arabia’s cultural identity and history.
Just like the background of the Saudi flag, the color of the day is green. Green balloons can be seen rising into the Saudi sky while many citizens sport green clothing in celebration.
Happy National Day, Saudi Arabia!
