Philippines Independence Day 2024
Today’s Doodle celebrates Independence Day in the Philippines. On this day in 1898, the country declared independence, ending over 300 years under Spanish rule.
Celebrations kick off with a 21-gun salute in the capital city of Manila. Later, government officials give speeches before singing the national anthem. Throughout the day, the Philippines national flag decorates homes and buildings — just like the one in today’s Doodle. The tricolor flag features a golden sun and three stars, which stand for the three main areas in the country: Luzon, Visayan, and Mindanao.
Happy Independence Day, Philippines
