Paraguay Independence Day 2024
This Doodle’s Key Themes
Today’s Doodle celebrates Paraguay Independence Day, also known as Día de la Independencia Nacional. On this day in 1811, the South American country officially declared its sovereignty from Spain.
On Independence Day, a sea of straw hats and vibrant blouses fill the streets as Paraguayans flock to parades and concerts. It’s also popular for families and friends to host asados (outdoor barbecues) — and break out traditional dances like the polka or galopera.
Whether people are at home or in the streets, they’re probably flying the tricolor red, white, and blue national flag. As depicted in today’s artwork, Paraguay’s flag is especially unique compared to other countries. It features symbols on both sides — the country’s coat of arms and treasury seal
¡Feliz día de la independencia, Paraguay!
