Mountain Day 2024

This Doodle celebrates Mountain Day or Yama no Hi 山の日 in Japanese. On this day, the country’s love for its towering natural beauty reaches a peak. Did you know more than 70% of Japan is mountainous?

Japan’s Mountain Day was enacted in 2014 and celebrated for the first time in 2016 with a national ceremony in the Japanese Alps. Today, its country’s citizens will appreciate and celebrate the outdoors and may even visit the world-famous Mt. Fuji, which stands at 3,775 meters. It’s more than just the tallest mountain in Japan — Fuji is also made up of three active, separate volcanos.
