Jordan Independence Day 2024
This Doodle’s Key Themes
Today’s annual Doodle celebrates Independence Day in Jordan, also known as Eid al-Istiklaal. On this day in 1946, Jordan ended the British mandate and officially gained its sovereignty.
Celebrations kick off in the capital city of Amman where citizens and local leaders attend ceremonies. After the early events, cities across the country hold events to watch fireworks.
No matter where people are, Jordan’s national flag is sure to be nearby. Depicted in today’s artwork, the black, white, and green flag features a white star atop a red triangle. Each color represents a different period of Jordan’s history while the star symbolizes the seven verses of Surah Al-Fatiha in the Qur’an.
Happy Independence Day, Jordan!
