Honduras National Day 2020
This Doodle’s Key Themes
Today’s Doodle celebrates Honduras’ National Day. On this date in 1821, the country–along with present-day Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua–declared autonomy from Spain with the adoption of the Act of Independence of Central America. The five countries went on to form the Federal Republic of Central America, and following Honduras’ secession from the federation the nation gained complete sovereignty in 1838.
Depicted in today’s Doodle is the flag of Honduras. The flag’s two blue stripes represent the famous bodies of water that border the nation on either side: the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Caribbean Sea to the east. And the five blue stars in the center represent the five nations of the Federal Republic of Central America.
¡Feliz Día de Independencia, Honduras!
