Welcome to Day 10 of the Doodle Snow Games! On this brrr-eezy day in PyeongChang, we're joined by athletes from all over the world hoping to prove themselves best in class (or species).
Let’s follow Magpie for a fluttering glimpse of today’s action…
With little gravity assistance or downslopes, cross-country skiing lacks hare-pin turns but tests the endurance of even the finest of athletes. Today’s race is a fabled competition between well-known rivals: Hare, game for anything and doesn’t cotton to crowds; and Tortoise, a veteran of these games for 188 years. Referee Mouse, outstanding in the field, flags the start. And they’re off!
Hare high-tails it down the parallel track and clocks in at 40 mph (64 km/h). Tortoise torques up to the land-speed of .17 mph (.27 km/h) with slow-and-steady determination. But while in the lead, Hare turns on a lucky rabbit’s foot, and doubles back on the track ski-less. This could be a hare-y situation…
Coming back into view, it’s looks like Tortoise is now a-head, by a nose! Hare, donning a shell-met and turtleneck, just took a leap of faith and teamed up with Tortoise for a very hoppy ending!
Stop by every day for the next week to keep up with all the action from the Doodle Snow Games!
