Q: Why was this topic meaningful to you personally?

A: Being Mexican-born and raised, our food feels like a part of my DNA. Chilaquiles is one of those dishes I grew up with, I still cook it whenever I have a chance. Being able to represent and create around the subject was very personal and special.

Q: What were your first thoughts when you were approached about working on this Doodle?

A: My first reaction, I thought it was a prank! I could not believe it, I had to read the email I received a couple of times to be able to reply. Once I realized how real it was I felt very lucky to be selected to work on this Doodle and I also felt a huge sense of responsibility to deliver a good end result.

Q: Did you draw inspiration from anything in particular for this Doodle?

A: Honestly, a lot of the inspiration came from memories. I've had chilaquiles thousands of times, my aunt used to bring her chilaquiles every New Year's celebration, and that feeling stayed with me during the whole process. My mom's salsa verde, how fresh and simple it is, and the brightness and flavor it has, all these things inspired me. The challenge for me was to create a visual that would be identifiable, and that people could connect with fast and easily. I wanted to use colors like pink which is such a Mexican color, I also knew from the beginning I would use a Talavera plate. Once the concept came together and sketches were approved it was all fun! Cutting tortillas into letters and frying them is something I will always remember.

Q: What message do you hope people take away from your Doodle?

A: I want to make people crave Chilaquiles, spark the memory of having them, or the curiosity to want to try them.
