Brazil Independence Day 2024
Today’s Doodle celebrates Brazil’s Independence Day, also known as Sete de Setembro (7 September). On this day in 1822, Brazil declared its independence from Portugal. After a two-year war, a treaty was signed and Brazil was recognized as a sovereign nation. The Doodle artwork features native Brazilian flowers.
To celebrate over 200 years of independence, patriotic events take place across the nation. In Brasília, citizens attend a military parade featuring marching bands and an aerial flyover. Other state capitals throw parades featuring schoolchildren and dancers. Citizens can be spotted enjoying outdoor activities like picnics, concerts, or other events celebrating Brazilian culture. Brazil’s green, yellow, and blue flag with 27 stars representing each state waves proudly from flagpoles, windows, and hands. As night falls, many gather to watch fireworks light up the sky.
Feliz Sete de Setembro, Brasil!
