About the Bastille Day 2024 Doodle
This Doodle celebrates la Fête nationale or le 14 Juillet, also known as Bastille Day. On this day in 1789, citizens of Paris stormed a prison fortress called the Bastille. This event was a critical first victory over the oppressive French monarchy and a milestone in the French Revolution. Illustrated by Paris-based guest artist Serge Bloch, today’s artwork shows festive vibrancy with the red and blue strings connecting people together.
Bastille Day festivities kick off with the oldest military parade in Europe. Crowds gather to watch soldiers march by while planes fly overhead, spraying blue, white, and red smoke.
Keep your ears open as you stroll through the bustling streets and you may hear the phrase Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité (liberty, equality, fraternity), or the joyful singing of La Marseillaise. France’s official motto and national anthem originated during the French Revolution and remain well-loved symbols of the nation. The parties go into the evening where people can be found dancing and enjoying the fireworks that light up the sky.
Vive le 14 Juillet!
