Austria National Day 2020
This Doodle’s Key Themes
Today’s Doodle celebrates Austria’s National Day, known in German as Nationalfeiertag. On this day in 1955, Austria passed a law that declared the nation’s permanent neutrality, and the date has been reserved for the observance of the country’s National Day since 1965.
Illustrated in the Doodle artwork is Austria’s red-and-white, horizontally-striped flag. While the flag was first officially adopted in 1918, its design traces its origins back centuries to Europe’s Middle Ages, with the first iterations appearing as early as 1191.
Einen schönen Nationalfeiertag! Happy National Day, Austria!
