Armenia Independence Day 2024
This Doodle’s Key Themes
Today’s Doodle celebrates Armenia’s Independence Day. On this day in 1991, the Armenian public voted in favor of independence, officially ending Soviet rule.
Independence Day symbolizes the restoration of Armenia’s statehood and the country hosts many festivities. Many gather in the capital Yerevan’s Republic Square. Public officials give speeches and onlookers flock to dance performances. Later, families might enjoy traditional dishes like harissa — a hearty meat porridge. Of course, fireworks splash across the sky with celebrations going late into the night.
Depicted in today’s artwork, Armenia’s national flag flies on buildings and homes today. The red, blue, and orange flag represents sacrifice, land, and courage.
Happy Independence Day, Armenia!
