Argentina Independence Day 2024
This Doodle’s Key Themes
Today’s Doodle celebrates Argentina’s Independence Day, also called Día de la Independencia. On this day in 1816, delegates gathered in Tucumán and declared independence from Spain. The house they met in is now a museum, the Casa Histórica de la Independencia, which many visit to learn more about the history of Argentina and its journey to freedom.
On this festive occasion, families gather to watch concerts or military parades complete with flyovers. It’s popular to attend cultural events that celebrate the country’s customs and music — like dancing the tango with friends!
If you’re chilly from outdoor activities, there’s no better way to warm up than with a steaming bowl of locro (stew with beans, corn, potatoes, squash, and meat), asado (Argentine barbeque), or toasty empanadas. For dessert, many reach for a churro and hot chocolate for a delicious end to the day.
Happy Independence Day, Argentina!
